No story on The Standard goes up without a featured image of some sort. In most instances, I prefer photography over any graphics. Our team has made a strong effort to incorporate as many photos as possible into both our digital and print publication. After all, it's strong imagery that persuades the audience to consider reading the lead.

Varsity sports teams compete in ISSTs

Varsity tennis, baseball, track and field and softball attend ISSTs, securing top honors with numerous victories. The event spanned May 22-31 as athletes competed against other schools to be crowned as ISST winners.

Community participates in student-led Aequitas workshops

Workshop leader Claire Corley (’23) discusses with participants of “Breaking the Echo Chamber: Navigating the Risks of Online Groupthink” March 2. The workshop included a short lecture, group discussion and an interactive activity.

Aequitas week, organized by the Social Justice Council, took place Feb. 28-March 7. In addition to a keynote speaker, students and faculty members led and engaged in workshops focusing on a variety of social justice topics.

14 new students reflect on their transition to the High School

The sound of footsteps and chatter filling the hallways can only mean one thing; school is back in session. For many, the coronavirus pandemic ensured that this would not be the ASL they have seen in the past, but for others, they never saw it look otherwise. Fourteen new students shared their experience of starting at a new school amid Covid-19 measures and give a glimpse of themselves and their experience so far.

Global Festival committee hosts author panel

Parent and faculty authors sat on a panel to speak about their books hosted by the PCA Global Festival committee in the Mellon Library Feb. 1. The panel was moderated by Sage Saunders (‘24) and Librarian Venisha Bahr.

Courtenay Morris (P ‘27 ‘30) is responsible for planning events in preparation for the Global Festival being held in March. She said the purpose of the festival is to “celebrate the diversity of the school.”

Morris said she was inspired to put together the panel after attending a similar event at her children’s previous school, The American Embassy School in Delhi. She said her favorite component was the range of topics community authors covered from different parts of the world.

“The diversity of the books is parallel to the diversity of the parent body,” Morris said. “That’s what’s really nice to see.” Photo and reporting by Rudi Chamria

Displaying strong photography

While photo galleries are a great go-to, I wanted to change up the way we display photography in parts of our site. In one of the stories I used the new Infobox feature on WordPress and in the other I created a photo story instead of a slideshow, so each photo of our fall musical could be appreciated in all its glory.

Fall season captains share their goals, love for sport

What do you love about cross country?

Victor: “It really is the team, because cross country isn’t as competitive when it comes to team performance. It is more about racing for you and that makes it so everybody can encourage everyone to keep going.”

What are your goals as captain?

Victor: “I hope to help encourage the team to do their best and win ISSTS. I also hope to help the freshman and new students this year to integrate into the team and feel like they're part of the team.”

GALLERY Students perform High School musical ‘Anything Goes’

The Performing Arts Department put on the fall musical “Anything Goes” Nov. 16-18. Set on the S.S. American, a boat traveling from New York to London in 1934, “Anything Goes” follows a combination of romantic and comedic storylines.

Ziad Ben-Gacem (’25) played Billy Crocker, a hopeless young man who falls in love with Hope Harcourt, played by Eleanor Ilyas (’24). Crocker ends up on the boat trying to find a way to marry her.
